When working with a CNC laser machine, one of the most commonly used tools is the control unit. A well-designed remote controller should be simple and intuitive, easy to operate, and above all, reliable. In this article, we will take a closer look at the Wattsan remote controller for metal cutting machines, a tool designed for regular use in difficult conditions.

Robust design for daily use

The remote controller is specially designed to work in harsh industrial environments. It is protected from dust and moisture thanks to fully sealed buttons that prevent contamination and prolong its service life. The silicone case provides an extra layer of protection, protecting the device from accidental drops and minor bumps. The remote controller is sturdy enough to withstand everyday annoyances.

The silicone coating provides a non-slip grip that prevents the remote controller from slipping off flat surfaces. In addition, it is equipped with a magnetic backing, which makes it convenient to attach it to the metal body of the machine, even in vertical positions. This small but thoughtful feature significantly increases the efficiency and organization of the workplace.

Navigating the interface: button functions

The remote control is equipped with 32 buttons, thoughtfully arranged for convenience and ease of use. The most frequently used buttons are located at the top:

  • Start: start the control program.
  • Pause: a temporary work stoppage.
  • Stop: automatically stops the process.

You will find a “Dry Cut” button between the “Pause” and “Stop” buttons. This feature allows the machine to simulate a cutting operation without turning on the laser beam. This is useful when checking whether a complex part will fit into a specific area of the workpiece, for example, if you want to use the rest of the sheet. “Dry Cut” allows you to preview the cutting path without losing material.

Another useful button is “Blow”, which performs several functions. It checks for leaks in the gas pipeline, cleans the nozzle from dust and helps to relieve the remaining gas pressure after work is completed.

Practical features for precision and safety

The “Follow” button lowers the working head in the direction of the material. Before using this function, it is important to make sure that the material is positioned correctly under the nozzle, as incorrect positioning can lead to collisions that damage the nozzle or the working head.

The “Shutter” button controls the activation of the laser source. The “Aiming” button turns the laser pointer on and off. This is especially useful when aligning the laser head or visually confirming the cutting area during a dry cut.

If you accidentally press “Stop” instead of “Pause”, the “PT Loc” button will help you. It returns the machine to the last cutting point, provided that the head has not moved since stopping. This feature is extremely useful for recovering from failures without restarting.

Customization and fine-tuning

You can start the program using the “Back” and “Forward” buttons. These steps are adjustable and can be 1 mm, 20 mm or 200 mm, depending on your preferences.

The “Laser” button emits a single laser pulse, which is useful for aligning or checking the direction of the beam. Below are six command buttons that can be configured to perform almost any action, such as:

  • Table changing (if your machine has an automatic table change system).
  • Moving the laser head to a preset point to replace the material
  • Activation of sponge clamping on machines equipped with pipe cutters

The configuration is done using the CypConfig software. Simply select “Wireless Pendand” from the left menu, right-click on the button and assign the desired command, even if a combination press is required, such as “Function” or “Fast”. Be careful: you can change all the button settings here, so double-check them before saving the changes.

The “Edge Seek” function determines the position of the material on the work surface. To ensure safety, it can only be activated in combination with the “Function” key, as the head moves quickly during this process. The “Zero” button also works this way and allows you to reset the starting point of the machine.

Movement along the X and Y axes is controlled using the directional arrows: left and right for X, up and down for Y. Pressing the “Fast” key before using these arrows increases the speed of movement, another parameter that can be adjusted using the software.

For machines with a rotary control axis, two W buttons are used. Similarly, the Z buttons adjust the position of the working head along the vertical axis. The “Fast” key is also applicable to these axes.

To preview the workspace, the “Frame” button outlines the boundaries of the layout. If you need to perform precise, controlled movements, then the “Step” key is ideal. It reduces movement to small steps, which is useful for aligning the laser head before starting work. Just press and hold “Step” and use the arrows to control the laser head. The step size can also be adjusted in the software.

Conclusion

The Wattsan laser remote controller is more than just a portable device, it is a powerful tool that allows you to fully control your machine. With its robust design, logical layout, and customizable features, it enhances workflow safety and efficiency. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced operator, mastering the functions of this remote control will greatly improve your CNC laser cutting skills.
