Laser Welding Machines

Work area
  • All models
    A laser welding machine uses a high-intensity laser beam to join parts of different materials. The welds are of good quality and frequently require little post-weld polishing, and the procedure is simple to automate into production lines. The automotive, aerospace, and medical device industries greatly value laser welding due to its accuracy and speed.

Criteria for selecting a laser welding machine

When choosing a laser welding machine, consider the following criteria:

  1. Machine size: There are models of different sizes on the market. In order to choose the right machine, focus on the volume of your production.
  2. Laser source power: The higher the power, the faster the work speed and the thicker the metal that can be welded.
  3. Cooling system: For the majority of applications, air cooling is sufficient. Water cooling is recommended if the machine is to be used continuously for long periods.
  4. Fiber cable length: The standard is 10 m. However, Wattsan has the laser welding machines that come with 15 m and 20 m cables. Your ability to weld in difficult-to-reach areas and move around with the gun in your hands without having to drag the entire machine around depends on how long the cable is.

Range of use of a laser welding machine

Laser welders are used to manufacture a wide range of items in a variety of industries due to their accuracy, speed, and versatility.

Here are some instances of applications and goods that can be produced with laser welding:

  • Automotive industry: Engine components, gearboxes, transmission parts; bodywork assembly; differently complex constructions, etc.
  • Aerospace: Avionics and engine components, structural panels and frames, etc.
  • Energetics: Solar panel parts and connectors, wind and gas turbine turbines, etc.
  • Electronics: Sensors, connections, microelectronic assemblies, and other parts for computers and mobile devices.
  • Health care: Medical supplies include orthopedic pins, pacemakers, scalpels, and other surgical instruments.
  • Jewelry: Exquisite work with a range of accessories and jewelry; repair and sizing changes without causing heat-sensitive stone damage.

FAQ

What metals can be welded with a laser welding machine?

Many different metals can be successfully welded using laser welding devices, including:

  • Aluminum;
  • Copper;
  • Nickel alloys;
  • Titanium;
  • Stainless steel, carbon steel;
  • Gold, silver, and other precious metals.

Can a laser welding machine weld cast iron?

Cast iron can be welded with a laser welder, although it is challenging because of its brittleness and high carbon content, which can cause cracking. To control thermal stress, laser parameters must be precisely controlled, and pre-heating and post-weld heat treatment are frequently required.

What are the disadvantages of laser welding?

The following are the main drawbacks of laser welding:

  1. High Initial Cost: Compared to traditional welding setups, laser welding equipment is typically more expensive.
  2. Thickness Limitations: Unless extremely strong (and costly) lasers are utilized, particularly thick materials are difficult to work with.
  3. Safety Concerns: Due to the high energy lasers’ potential for harm, strict safety precautions must be used.

Can a laser welding machine weld aluminum?

Yes, aluminum can be welded with a laser welding machine, although there are some difficulties:

  • The high reflectivity of aluminum may reduce the effectiveness of welding. In this case, fiber lasers are far better than CO2 ones.
  • Due to its quick heat dissipation, aluminum requires a higher power density.
  • In order to control the oxide film that aluminum produces, cleaning is often required.
  • Porosity and cracking, but these problems can be reduced by controlling the welding parameters.
