You’ve bought your first CNC router and are not sure what to do with the delivered wooden box at your doorstep. Don’t worry, in this article we will tell you how to prepare a newly bought machine for work! Also, for your comfort, we have a video of this whole process. So, let’s begin!

Step 1. Unpacking

First unpack the CNC router machine.

Please inspect the provided equipment promptly upon delivery and ensure that there are no exterior damages caused during shipping. If exterior damage is discovered during transit, do not accept the machine or do so with proper reservations!

When you are sure that everything is in place, complete the unpacking and put all the accessories near the place where you plan to assemble the equipment. Make sure that there is enough space so that the moving parts of the machine don’t collide with other objects.

Step 2. Assembly

Please make sure there is enough room for this process and any necessary repairs before proceeding. Also, take care with the sharp edges of the pieces. Do not forget to inspect the assembly site for cleanliness; poorly secured or scattered parts and tools can lead to an accident!

The machine may come with a gantry installed or removed, depending on the customer’s request and transportation convenience.

  1. First of all, remove the bumpers on both sides.
  2. Then,  align the carriages to the gantry.
  3. Move the gantry to the machine so that it hangs over the carriage. You may need a stacker for this.
  4. Fix the carriages under the holes in the gantry with guide rails. Hexes are good for this.
  5. Screw the gantry to the linear carriages.
  6. Mount the stepper motors along the axis. Fix the motors without tightening the screws then press the motor so that the gear on the motors would fit tightly onto the helical rack on the base of the machine. Then connect the motors.
  7. Screw on the removed bumpers and dusters which protect the guides.
  8. Screw the cable tray.
  9. Lay the cable channel and fix it.
  10. Next we connect the machine’s electrical system. Connect the wires from the machine to the control cabinet. Connect the chipboard controller. Mount and connect power supply. Connect to mains.

Also, we have an article where we go through all of the parts of the CNC router machine.

Step 3. Starting the machine

Now turn on the CNC router machine and wait till it comes back to the origin of coordinates. Check inverter settings then check the control panel settings. Before shipping, all machines are prepared thoroughly and initial settings such as the size of the working area, travel speeds, spindle speed, etc. are being tested. You just need to connect the machine and you are ready to go!

Before you begin, check that the CNC router machine housing is properly grounded. The equipment must be kept in a dry, pollution-free environment. The interior temperature should be between 5 and 40 degrees Celsius.

  • Make sure there are no lost tools or other foreign items in the machine mechanics.
  • Check the tightness of the machine’s joints and any sections that need to be tightened again.
  • Examine all electrical connections to ensure that all wires are properly connected and the connectors are secure.
  • Verify the power supply settings and ensure that they are consistent with the machine’s characteristics and the associated load.
  • Check the serviceability of the protection equipment.

Now, put this CNC router to life!

Step 4. First check

Following each CNC router machine activation, a number of procedures must be completed:

  • Performing the “GO HOME”, that includes “Return to the zero point”, “Return to the origin point”, “Return to machine zero” procedures. This is required for it to accurately calculate its position relative to the working table.
  • Warm up the spindle; start it for 5 minutes at a rotation speed of 10-12 thousand revolutions per second, or around 200 Hz.

Now you are ready to go and explore the wonders of the CNC router world and its capabilities. Don’t forget to maintain it, and good luck!
